Natalie was involved in several smaller television roles before arriving in mainstream television with her part of Izzy Hoyland in Neighbours in late 2003. She also had an established stage career, having starred in Australian production of shows such as Rent and Footlooose, and has continued to pursue this aspect of her professional life.
In 2004, whilst still playing a large part in Neighbours, Natalie joined the electro-dance outfit the Rogue Traders as a lead singer. He part with the band was kept quiet until the release of the bands first single Voodoo Child in 2005. Since then the band have continued to release music to the Australian market and have plans to release singles and their successful first album with Natalie Bassingthwaighte as a singer Here Come The Drums.
2005 also saw Natalie resume her stage career taking part in a Australian production of Grease. She starred as the female lead Sandy and the show travelled around Australia stopping in five major cities (Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide).
June 2006 saw Natalie filming her last scenes on the show as she took the decision to split from the show as she sought to pursue other acting roles and wished to spend more time with the Rogue Traders which were taking Australia by storm and were on the verge of releasing music in the U.K.
A few months after he screen departure strong rumours began to surface that Natalie would be reprising her role in the form as a short guest stint. More details followed with the news that the small part would tie in with a Karl and Susan storyline which would see the three characters appear in the U.K. Whilst filming these screens all three cast member attended the National Television Awards which took place at the end of October 2006.
Despite success with the Rogue Traders, Natalie announced plans to attempt a solo career at the end of 2006. Her commitment to the Rogue Traders would continue through most of 2007 as the band released their third album (the second with Natalie Bassingthwaighte as lead singer). However Natalie planned to being her solo career alongside this and the suggestions at the time were that she would start to focus on her solo efforts toward the end of 2007.
