Max's father arrived in Erinsborough during the 2005 season. He arrived at Erinsborough General Hospital to see Boyd who was undergoing treatment for a cancerous growth discovered after being admitted to hospital be Karl suffering from a suspected mental illness.

Bobby's arrival delighted Max's sister Izzy, but Max wasn't that pleased. During Max's childhood relationships between Bobby and his wife Rosie were strained. Bobby spent most of his time working away from home as an engineer. This meant he had little time for his children and tended to run away from his problems rather than dealing with them. Bobby's arrival also caused a stir in the females of Ramsay Street. Bobby dated Susan, Lilijiana and Janelle in quick succession sweeping all three of their feet.

Despite appearing to settle into Ramsay Street Bobby still felt flighty. The threat of a visit from Rosie caused him to attempt to flee from Ramsay Street. Max also remained stiff when dealing with Bobby, refusing to believe he had changed for the better.
