Boyd arrived in Ramsay Street with his family in 2002. He settled in quickly and appeared quiet and intelligent and soon found himself as part of the advanced learning scheme at Erinsobrough High School and was placed in a year above his current one to reflect his working level. Boyd soon found himself rebelling though.
Boyd soon developed a friendship with Sky. At first they seemed at odds, with Boyd being popular and sociable and Sky relishing her outcast status but they grew closer. Their relationship was far from smooth and saw them breaking up and getting together several times. Eventually they split for good but retained a strong bond of friendship.
After failing to get the grades he needed to study at University Boyd left school and sought work. He soon found a job in a local Gym. Once there he found himself being coerced into entering a body building championship. This saw him taking extreme control of his eating patterns and his friends and family grew more and more concerned. Eventually Boyd crashed and it was left to Sky and Steph to cope with it as it happened whilst Max was overseas. Boyd admitted to taking hormone based pills to increase his change in the contests which he was entering. Soon after he began suffering side effects which appeared to be coming from the drugs. Tests showed he was possibly schizophrenic. Max returned to Erinsborough as this was happened and was present when the diagnosis was changed to a brain tumor which needed an immediate operation. There was a high possibility that Boyd would be mentally and physically disabled after the operation but the tumor was removed without incident and he was given a clean bill of health.
In 2005 Max and Steph began looking into adoption. It was a complex process and the resulting arrangement saw them being accepted to adopt the child of 19 year old Kayla when she given birth. Kayla was living rough at the time and ran into problems. Max and Steph stepped in and invited her to stay at number 3434. As Boyd met Kayla he grew more and more distressed at the adoption arrangement. He was convinced that Kayla was not happy with giving up her child and set about providing her a chance to look after the child herself and went as far as offering himself as a father for the baby. This eventually saw Kayla leaving Erinsborough with her child, but without Boyd.
After having split up with Sky Boyd found himself getting involved with Janae Timmins. He was reluctant to get involved at first, especially as Janae was a few years younger which saw her still in high school as he was leaving. The pair got along well though and found themselves gradually getting involved with each other. Their relationship was stable for some time until Boyd successfully managed to get into University to study medicine. Whilst Janae was happy for him her fears over his female classmates and how he may forget about Janae saw her threatening Boyds peers much to his shock. The introduction of Sasha Hennessy who was on Boyd's course provided a more mature friendship and saw Boyd becoming increasingly frustrated with Janae. Her sudden desire to have children after the birth of Charlie Hoyland saw Boyd finally call a halt on their relationship as it became clear they wanted totally different things. Sasha began to make a move on Boyd when he told her about his split from Janae but Boyd spurred most of her advances as it seemed he was still thinking about Janae.
