Sister to Max Hoyland, Izzy arrived in Erinsborough immediately offending many of the residents. Confident in herself and her influence over men she breezed around the street settling into the community quickly. The initial problems she caused, mostly upsetting some of the older residents with her apparent lack of morals.

Despite Izzy's apparent flaws Max stood by her indicating a strong bond between the pair. Both Boyd and Summer felt the same towards their Aunt. Steph Hoyland was put in a difficult situation as Lyn Scully favoured her friendship with Susan and marked Izzy as a trouble maker.

Izzy soon went into business with Harold Bishop buying a partnership in the Coffee Shop. This was pretty successful. After the Lassiter fire in December 2005, Izzy created a bar to be built in the Lassiter Complex where the Coffee Shop with Max as a partner.

Izzy has had a few relationships with the men of Erinsborough, the longest being with Karl Kennedey. This has been a troubled paring though. The relationship began whilst Karl was having problems with Susan and caused mutterings amongst the other residents of the Street who felt that Izzy's untrustworthy nature was being highlighted. Friends gathered around Susan and shunned both Karl and Izzy. The relationship has also been blighted with Izzy's self doubt that she could hold true love for long. Izzy also wove a web of deciet which eventually tripped her up. A brief fling with Paul Robinson also helped to make matters worse.

A very public break up with boyfriend Karl Kennedy after her relationship with Paul was exposed returned Izzy to the position of most hated Ramsay Street resident. Gradually though Izzy recovered from the shunning and found herself drawn to Paul once more. This time the pair had a public relationship, using their strong personalities to laugh at the mutterings from the other residents of Ramsay Street as the pairs relationship grew more serious.

The relationship between Izzy and Paul continued despite friction with the arrival of Paul's daughter Elle Robinson who began a campaign to undermine Izzy. Things quietened down as Paul stepped in an attempted to maintain peace between the pair.
