Popular and confident, Janae Timmins arrived with the remainder of the Timmins family in 2005, after Scott and Dylan had settled. The Timmins moved in with Lyn Scully. Despite her outward confidence Janelle found it hard to make friends in the street, finding it easier to get into scraps than spend time with others.

Things were also similar in her love live. Janae began dating Mike soon after arriving, despite misgivings from Dylan. The relationship didn't last long and Janae was left feeling alone and alienated from even her family. Later counseling sessions with Karl Kennedy helped her find the root of her problems. Janae tended to act up to get attention from her parents, who tended to have there hands full with the rest of the family and only noticing Janae when she was in trouble. After a attempt at running away Janelle gradually began noticing these facts about her daughter by herself. After Janae helped explain the problem the pair’s relationship grew much stronger.

Janae's next romance was Boyd Hoyland. Her initial advances were knocked aside though, as they were made soon after Boyd had broken up his fairly involved relationship with Sky Mangel and was in no mood to date. Boyd was also conscious of the fact that Janae was Stingers younger sister and aside from the age gap Boyd and Janae, things were still touchy between Boyd and Stingray after Boyd' fling with Serena had been revealed. Janae was persistent though and befriended Boyd before dating. After a while the pair grew closer together and gradually began a relationship in late 2005.

Their strong relationship began to falter in 2006 when the pairs differing views began to surface. Janae expressed a big desire to settle down and have children, much to Boyd's alarm. This growing split saw the pair break up fully with Boyd citing Janae's immaturity as the main cause. They both struggled to move on though with each being unable to keep from interfering in new relationships formed.

Despite this split Boyd and Janae eventually found they missed each other and they became a couple again as they admitted to each other that they cared. Their decision to marry came as a shock to both the Timmins and Hoyland families with both sides expressing disapproval. The hostile tone in which the marriage was received saw the pair increase their commitment to one and another. Boyd and Janae found themselves living in number 30 as both Max and Janelle issued ultimatums that they either move out or give up on getting married.
