Miranda is adamant that Susan should know about Rachel’s encounter with Angus at school but Rachel begs to be allowed to tell her stepmother herself. Given Rachel’s past behaviour, Miranda’s unsure whether she can be trusted and robs Rachel of the chance to raise the topic in her own time. Furious that Angus has broken his bail conditions on the eve of his court hearing, Susan’s ready to call the police. Determined to convince Susan that their meeting was accidental, Rachel swears on the life of her late father that she is telling the truth.

Appreciating the power of such a vow, Susan backs down but the confrontation reminds Rachel of the impact the affair has had on her whole family. She finally writes her statement, acknowledging that what happened between her and Angus was wrong but squarely shouldering half of the blame for their misdeeds. Will Rachel’s moving speech save Angus from jail?

Sam finds Dan counting her pills and is angry that he doesn’t trust her to keep taking her medication. Things get even more complicated when Dan attempts to confess his dance class misadventure with Libby only to realise that Sam already knew. Accustomed to his bipolar wife flying off the handle, he’s concerned that her measured reaction isn’t honest. Meanwhile Sam is annoyed that he felt she needed protecting from the truth. She challenges him to see her as a person, not just an illness.

Rebecca is at a loss to know how best to discipline Declan and, in desperation, attempts to ban him from playing football and attending the upcoming school formal. Declan simply defies her and goes to training anyway. When coach Steve learns of the drama, he asks Rebecca’s permission to try a new tactic with her wayward son. Declan is allowed to play football… but Steve’s going to push him to his physical and emotional limits.
