Relations remain strained between Valda and Lyn after the news that Valda is Lyn’s birth mother. Lyn has refused to even talk to Valda as she feels Valda is the source of betrayal that saw her live a lie for most of her life. Joe attempts to act as a peacemaker between the pair but finds himself siding with Lyn despite exchanging a few words with Valda. Valda attempts to enlist the help of Max so she can explain herself to Lyn but Max informs her that it is a Scully matter and he doesn’t want to get involved.
Harold plans for a late night advertising campaign to promote the Coffee Shop. He attempts to show his commercial to Valda and Lou who are unimpressed by his straight monologue to them. With encouragement Harold begins fooling around and injects a bit of life into the script which impresses both. He finished by placing a comic wig on his head and, as Lou and Valda fall about laughing, mentions he may dump the script and do a similar ad lib performance for the final advert.
Susan finds herself struggling with Lyn after she had told her friend that she finds herself compelled to support Darcy and so doesn’t feel in a position to be Oscar’s godmother. Susan turns up at the salon whilst it is closing though and asks if Lyn can squeeze her in. The initial few minutes are uncomfortable for both but the pair draw closers as Lyn breaks down as Susan talks about how the brushing of her hair reminds her of how her mother used to do a similar thing when she was young. Susan stays with Lyn and they talk about the recent events with Valda. The pairs friendship is renewed and they continue talking about the stress of recent events back at number 28. Later Lyn returns home and seems more comfortable with the situation. Joe gently suggests that she talk to Valda but Lyn seems as set against this as she was when the news first broke.
Nina is concerned about the pictures of her kissing Robbie D and pleads with Melody to try and stop them from being published. Melody insists that such images will be good for Nina’s career but Nina is less convinced as she feels Robbie D is as unknown as she is. She goes on to explain about not telling Jack but Melody tells her that that is Nina’s problem not hers. Nina finds herself dodging the subject with Jack when they meet later in the Coffee Shop and asks how yesterday had gone for her.
Boyd begins work at Lou’s Garage and finds himself enjoying the work. As her enters the garage to get keys for a customer though he spots keys for a red Ford Mustang which is Stuart is working on. Boyd seems keen to drive the Mustang despite being underage and since no-one else is working with him he eventually gives in and gets behind the wheel. His first attempt at starting the engine is a little shaky and he stalls the car. Back at home he clashes with Max again who is suspicious as to where he has gotten the new clothes he has been wearing. Summer tells Max about Boyd’s new job but Boyd seems frustrated that Max chose to assume the worst at first. As Max and Steph have to go out to Steph’s school reunion Boyd leaves the house and heads back to the garage where he sneaks inside with the goal appearing to be trying to drive the Mustang again.
Summer gives into temptation despite still trying to “fast for freedom” which sees her fasting for charity. She has made a chocolate cake and covered it in sweets and decorations which is supposed to be for Lisa to show her how close a friend she is. As she is putting the final touches to the cake she licks some whipped cream from her arm which seems to dissolve all of her resolve and she finds herself tucking into the lavish cake. She later regrets doing so and feels that God will punish her for her sins but she feels that her sponsors should still pay up since the goal was to raise money for charity.
