Susan is comforted by her friends, though their concern is rebuffed by Susan who puts on a brave face. Despite her claims otherwise Susan is really feeling empty after Rachel and Zeke have left. Karl attempts to ease her pain by covering his enjoyment after his holiday in New Zealand, though Izzy puts a stop to this butting into the pairs conversation and revealing that Karl had said the opposite to Max a few minutes earlier.
Paul continues to express a desire for better relations with his children and begins to mention Robert to both Robert and Elle. Robert is thrown by the care expressed by Paul who is keen for both he and Elle to work to improve the way they treat Robert. Again Robert threatens to blow his cover by snapping at Paul and bringing up the poor way he treated both Robert and his mother, Gail Robinson. Things return to normal later though as Robert apologises for his outburst, which is waved away by Paul.
Stingray continues to drink after he began trying alcohol as part of his job at the scarlet bar and as a social thing with his University friends. Rachel pulls him up on this again as she finds him outside in the middle of the day with a beer in hand. Stingray denies that he has a problem but Rachel’s comments that he’s drinking in an attempt to boost his confidence around his new friends ring true. Stingray shows this after he struggles with a presentation at University. He finds himself hesitant and nervous whilst speaking at the front of his class and isn’t helped by the fact that his peers dispute his arguments at every opportunity as he attempts to work with a loose hypothesis. His tutor calls him to a halt early and suggests that Stingray continues after the lunch break. Stingray heads to the Scarlet Bar and has a couple of drinks. Once back in the classroom he manages to muster more courage and conviction in his presentation (enough even to shout down a few students who begin to chatter in the middle of his presentation). This alcohol seems to do the trick and earn him some positive feedback from his tutor who praises his effort and achievement in arguing a difficult case.
Izzy becomes Robert’s next victim as she manages to convince Max and Steph to let her look after Charlie. After initial reluctance from her brother and sister in law Izzy manages to argue her case and Max and Steph leave Charlie with her for the afternoon. Robert sees his opportunity and hangs around unnoticed by Izzy. As she falls asleep on the couch in number 22 he sabotages the boiler which sees gas leak into the house and begin to kill Izzy and Charlie.
