Paul struggles to deal with his break up with Izzy and the news that she tried to cheat on him with Robert. Max questions him as to whether he thinks Izzy is back on the drugs she was taking as he explains that she is still insisting that Robert and Elle set her up despite her voice in the message that exposed her. Paul things for a few minutes but then tells Max that he has washed his hands of her. Later Paul interrupts Lyn telling her he needs her back at number 22 as an important phone call is coming through from the London branch of Lassiter’s. Lyn is working on Janelle, Izzy and Susan’s dresses and argues that she has to work on them as Janelle can’t afford a professional seamstress. As she makes the comment Paul pulls out a wad of money and gives it to her explaining that now Janelle can which frees up Lyn to come with him. Once they’re both back at number 22 it becomes clear that the business matter which Paul used is not pressing and Lyn attempts to get to the truth behind Paul’s reasoning for calling her over so forcefully. She suspects it’s Izzy and turns the topic towards Paul’s relationship with Izzy which leads to Paul opening up and explaining that he really thought Izzy was “the one”. Lyn attempts to console Paul pointing out that he has both Elle and Robert and he is a good father to them. Lyn points out that next time Paul wants a chat to just say so rather than pretending there is some pressing work matter. Paul admits that he sees Lyn as more than an employee but doesn’t specify how much more.
Max’s plans for Janae and Boyd backfire as the pair act close whenever he is around. Max is unaware that this is due to them knowing of his plan to split them up. Steph picks up on the frequent romantic embraces between them though and confronts them about it. She challenges them to drop the act and try to live together normally to see whether they can manage. Boyd expresses his worry that they may not be able to and would end up proving Max right but Steph states that that is a risk they have to take.
Stingray talks to Susan about his doubts about Rachel’s latest choice in boyfriend. Susan is surprised to find Stingray so against Garrett Burns pointing out that just because his brother isn’t that nice doesn’t mean that Garrett is. Susan chats to Rachel later and seems satisfied with the response from Rachel who explains that she is happy to be dating Garrett and her interest in Stingray was just a crush. Rachel shows her true feelings when talking to Sky later on though as she admits that she trying to reinvent herself in an effort to get over Stingray. Sky tells Rachel that this type of escapism isn’t advised but Rachel explains that she’s doing it to make everyone else happy rather than herself.
Cassie’s sickness increases worrying Susan enough to call out a vet. When it becomes apparent that the Kennedy sheep is dying Susan spends time with Karl outside the back of number 28 watching Cassie as she dies. They reminisce over how the sheep came to the family, with it being brought home by Billy when he was out on his paper round. Talk turns to how the sheep was named with Karl stating that naming was down to him first suggesting Casserole as a name and Susan suggesting the compromise of Cassie after Billy protested as her feared they were going to eat the sheep. They point out that Cassie must be around 14 years old which is a good age for a sheep and then call Mal, Billy and Libby when Cassie finally dies. The reactions from all the kids are similar and Karl expresses surprises at the emotion from Mal and the willingness of Billy to talk at length with him. Cassie is buried in the back garden of number 28 and there is a small gathering which is boosted by Stingray who calls around at the other houses in the street. Karl and Susan say a few words then Stingray talks about how Cassie listened to some of his secrets whilst he was living with Susan and Harold says a few words. The gathered residents all say goodbye to Cassie as the funeral comes to an end. Karl is left with Susan and Lyn as they chat casually about Cassie and life. Karl makes a move so he can return home and changed for work. Lyn watches him leave and comments that Susan and Karl seem like a married couple again. Susan scoffs at this but seems to talk Lyn’s words on board.
