Katya attempts to protect her relationship with Ned, taking drastic action to prevent Carmella from coming between them. Carmella tries to explain her feelings to Ned through a letter as suggested by Rosetta. Katya watches them from the corner of her eye as Carmella hesitates outside number 30 with the letter in her hand. Rosetta appears and gets Carmella to post it. Once the pair head off Katya sees that the letter is still caught in the mouth of the post box and she moves to get a closer look.

Pepper has a job interview for a PE teacher at Erinsborough High. Susan bumps into her in the General Store and tells Pepper that she will be carrying out the interview and suggests that, for ease and comfort, they hold it at number 28. Once back in Ramsay Street Pepper starts the interview awkwardly with a joke, however her suitability for the role is shown moments later as she explains to Susan how 20% of school children are unfit and helping to improve fitness levels boosts all other aspects of a child’s life. The interview ends quickly though as Pepper notices a picture of Karl, who she had laughed about when Susan had asked her how she had found Ramsay Street. Realising her blunder Pepper gets up and heads towards the door telling Susan she's very sorry and has to go. Susan tries to calm her down but she disappears out into the street.

Boyd continues to pull away from Steph and Janae focusing on his desire to find Max. Janae finds herself telling Steph that a part of the reason for Boyd's frantic search is the guilt he felt having stayed quiet whilst his fellow students had laughed at Max whilst he was in hospital. Janaes attempts to reason with him are met by hostility. As she suggest she knows what Boyd is going through as she has had similar worries every time Kim goes missing Boyd growls that Kim is nothing like Max.

As promised, Frazer spends time showing Will exactly what his professed job as a professional gambler entails. Armed with a laptop, a pair of headphones and three mobile phones (one for business, one for pleasure and one for his bookie) he explains that his betting involves enough research and planning that it is closer to a science than a sport or hobby. Will is sceptical but finds himself drawn in as Frazer asks him to chip in some cash for the days escapades. The pair settle in front of the laptop at a table in the Scarlet Bar and listen to various sports which they bet on. Will is soon cheering and cursing as he follows urges horses and teams to victory. Will is less than impressed as they suffer a big loss but Frazer explains that they are still $300 up and that’s an improvement on the $20 he started the day with and enough to pay Will back with interest.

With Boyd out looking for Max and Lyn in America, Steph finds herself reaching out to Toadie who is still in Sydney. Toadie is in the middle of celebrating a big win with his colleagues when his phone rings. Steph attempts to hang up as she hears he is having a good time but Toadie manages to get her to tell the truth. Toadie returns to Ramsay Street with Steph admitting that her family is falling apart around her. He is alarmed to find there is no room at number 30 and warns Ned that one of the new residents will need to be booted out to make room, but Steph invites and encourages him to stay at number 32 as she hears of his predicament. Boyd is less than impressed with the arrangement and accuses Steph of attempting to replace Max. Steph snaps at this and pulls him aside to plead with him to work with her. Her words seem to get through to Boyd who agrees that they should be working together to locate Max.

Pepper is tracked down by Susan and she attempts to blurt out an apology for leaving number 28 in such a rush. Susan waves this away and surprises Pepper by telling her that she was the most suitable candidate for the role of PE teacher at Erinsborough High and that she had secured the job.

Carmella waits for Ned in the local park for the chat that she had suggested in the letter that she had posted in Ramsay Street earlier. It seems clear that Ned has stood her up, though he had never received the letter as Katya had fished it out of the letter box and kept it from Ned having read its contents. Unaware of the letter Ned greets Carmella as though nothing has happened as she runs into him at the Scarlet Bar where she is meeting Rosetta. Once out of earshot, Carmella fumes at how blaze Ned had appeared. Rosetta suggests that Ned may not have gotten the letter. Carmella seems doubtful that Katya would sink so low as to intercept the mail but Rosetta suggests that it’s “time to take the gloves off”.

Pepper and Frazer have their planned dinner with Allan Steiger in the Scarlet bar. Pepper encourages Frazer to play the part of husband to be and kisses him as Steiger settles down to join them. As Pepper bounds off to the bar Steiger quietly warns Frazer that he thinks there’s something strange about him and warns him that both his eyes and the eyes of his colleagues are on Frazer.
