Paul is knocked out of his daydream by the reverend who continues to ask Paul whether he wishes to take Lyn’s hand in marriage. He is startled at first but he settles the nerves of Lyn and those gathered as he finally accepts the marriage proposal. The pair kiss and then head outside where they spend a few minutes being photographed by Karl for their wedding album. Karl voices his scepticism of the whole thing as he stands with Susan a little way from the main celebrations. She points out that Paul really does seem to love Lyn but Karl continues is still doubtful.

Carmella and Will argue as her suggestion that he ask his father to help Harold with his tax form. Despite setting Harold up with a prestigious law firm, Will’s actions are questioned by Carmella as Harold points out that no-one at the firm recognised the name Griggs when he mentioned it. Carmella attempts to confront Will about this lie but he feels Carmella is just looking for a way out of their relationship so she can return to the convent with a clear conscience. He lets Carmella know how much he ‘inquisition’ had offended him by announcing that it would be best for them to head to Paul and Lyn’s wedding reception alone. There disagreement lasts as long as it takes them to get to the reception as, once there, they find themselves drawn to each other after Paul makes a speech about his natural love for Lyn. They both apologise and take to the dance floor together. Later when they arrive back at number 24, Carmella tells Will that she has chosen to stay in Ramsay Street rather than return to the convent.

There is a problem with Santa who was supposed to be putting on a show for the children of Erinsborough. Ned backs out of helping out however Elle’s pleas that he should do it for the children hit home and he manages to partition Toadie to take on the role of Santa. Toadie’s motives for accepting the job so readily are revealed as, after a short stint with the children, he tells Ned that he will only continue participating in the event if Ned dresses up in a skimpy elf costume and helps out. Despite Ned’s reluctance he proves a hit amongst some of the mothers who have brought their children to have a picture taken with Santa.

Lyn’s world falls apart quickly as she heads off on her honeymoon with Paul. They arrive at a hotel on the coast and settle in for the day. As Lyn heads of to ‘slip into something a little more comfortable’ Paul stares out at the sea from their balcony deep in thought. As Lyn sneaks up behind him she finds Paul in a very sombre mood. He begins breaking up with her by telling her that he had flirted with the lady who had brought the champagne whilst Lyn was changing. As Lyn attempts to brush this away he confesses that he kissed Rosie whilst they were trapped in the Lassiter wine cellar and that he would do it again if he were given the chance. This gets through to Lyn and Paul explains that he would only end up hurting her if they remained together so it is best for them to break apart quickly. He leaves her in the room alone to take in the weight of the situation as he heads back to Ramsay Street.

The news of Lyn and Paul’s break up spreads quickly amongst their friends and family. Lyn calls Steph who quickly arrives at the hotel with Karl and Susan to help Lyn out. Paul is discovered by a tentative Elle who heard him rustling downstairs and feared he was a burglar. She quickly gets the truth out of Paul and states that Paul destroyed his relationship with Lyn due to his ‘self destructing’ nature rather than a noble gesture to save them both. The next day sees Lyn deciding that she will carry on with the honeymoon taking Oscar along with her to the Maldives. They will then spend some time visiting Flick and Michelle in America. Steph is reluctant to let her mother go however Lyn seems happy with her decision. Elle has also come to a decision and, after a visit to see Lyn and apologise for Paul’s behaviour, announces to her father that she is returning to Tasmania. Paul attempts to stop her from leaving him however a taxi is soon parked outside and Elle marches towards it and orders the driver to take her to the airport despite Paul continuing to plead with her to stay. As Elle leaves Steph arrives back in Ramsay Street with Karl and Susan. She spots Paul and rushes towards him and punches him hard in the face.
