Backup arrives to help Steiger and Pepper after the threatening letter and baby carrier were discovered by the pair on the number 30 sofa. Pepper is shaken by the event despite Steigers efforts to instil courage in her. He promises that he will protect her and encourages her to stay by his side so he can do so. They settle in the living room of number 30 and think aloud about ways to track Kevin down. The army are refusing to give details about Kevin’s dismissal and there is little else to go on. Pepper remembers Kevin’s mother Mary Casey and suggest that she attempt to talk to her, noting that there was always closeness between them. Steiger agrees with the idea and they arrive at a large detached house a while later. Kevin’s mum answers the door hesitantly and seems nervous around the pair. Pepper’s bright manner relaxes Mary and the three of them have tea in the large garden surrounding the house. Steiger wanders off to look around the garden and Mrs Casey admits to Pepper that she lied to the police officers who stopped at the house earlier as part of their investigation into Kevin. Mary tells Pepper that she has seen Kevin recently and that he was acting unsually tense. Steiger meanwhile spots a black cross through tree carved “Kevin Casey for Pepper Steiger” initials. Pepper and Steiger to return home and Pepper reflects on what could have been. She admits regrets for leaving Kevin and his mum so suddenly, with little regard for their feelings. Mary finds herself picking up the phone after Steiger and Pepper leaves. She asks for the police and begins to say something about her son. She clams up with apparent fear and stammers that the call was a mistake.
Rosetta and Toadie continue to jostle as they both deal with their separate pressing problems. Rosetta struggles with her complex relationship with Frazer as Toadie hassles her over the over compensation she creates, focusing on Frazer’s possible legal action and renovating number 30 to make it wheelchair accessible. In return to Toadie’s pressure, Rosetta challenges Toadie over Abby’s lack of suitability for the legal secretary job he has hired her to do. Rosetta attempts to solve the problem of Frazer’s lack of cooperation in signing the legal writ needed to pursue a case against the race track by forging his signature. The fraud is short lived as Toadie visits a surly Frazer who points out that he has told Rosetta nothing apart and has asked her to leave him to be. Frazer’s insistence that he didn’t sign the writ sees Toadie returning to the office to confront Rosie. She claims that Frazer needs compensation and argues that Frazer isn’t himself at the moment. She calls on Frazer herself but is treated as coolly as before. She breaks into Frazer’s rant as he demands to know why she is attempting to care for him. At his suggestion that it is guilt, she responds that it’s love.
Sky’s meeting with Terrance, which was overshadowed by Susan and Janelle dragging Rachel and Bree away from, is cancelled by Harold. He admits this to a cross Sky who continues to express as desire to get more involved in spiritualism. Harold encourages her to be cautious however Sky points out that he was just as hooked when Terrance mentioned Madge. Terrance pays an unexpected visit to number 24 and has a few words with Sky and Harold. Harold is keen for him to leave quickly but Terrance insist that he is compelled to act due to the overwhelming number of voices trying to get through. Harold’s scepticism takes another knock as Terrance continues to provide snippets about Madge, Stingray and Sky’s mother Kerry Mangel. Terrance allays Harold’s fears further by encouraging Sky to heed Harold’s words of caution and offering them both time to try and cope with what he is offering. Terrance meets with Sky for drinks in the Scarlet Bar later. He seizes upon Sky mentioning that she had flashes which suggested Stingray’s death before the event. Sky explains about her mother’s gravestone plaque changing to read “Timmins” and the dream in which Stingray’s image faded from a photograph. Terrance nods to her words and tells Sky that he thought she was special when they first met. He tells her that he would like to help her develop her spiritualist talent. Sky seems lifted by his suggestion that she is special and doesn’t react to Terrance pointing out that such teachings could become costly. He assures her that she could recoup her investment quickly through clients as he does and encourages Sky to decide about the offer herself without mentioning it to others.
