Oliver and Carmella finally agree that they should split and he moves out. At work avoiding her own problems, Elle finds him holed up in one of the rooms at Lassiter's. Despite having resolved to keep their distance, Elle and Oliver realise that the misery loves company. Elle talks about the pain of Paul's rejection and Oliver admits that regardless of what happened with Carmella, he still has feelings for Elle. Finally laughing for the first time in days, will these two tortured souls give in to their long-simmering desire?
Ringo finds Oliver packing and is shocked to discover that he and Carmella have broken up. Angry Oliver informs Ringo that his constant interference only made things worse and accuses him of having a crush on Carmella. Ringo vehemently denies that his counselling had any ulterior motives but Rachel gently suggests that perhaps his interest in Carmella is his way of avoiding the other painful issues in his life, like Frazer's paralysis. Getting nowhere with stubborn Ringo, Rachel has a woman-to-woman chat with Carmella instead and asks her to stay away from Ringo for a while. Realising that her recent behaviour has been inappropriate, Carmella agrees. However, Ringo reacts badly to Carmella's rejection. Hurt and humiliated, he steals her keys and speeds off in her ute. Could his anger lead to tragedy?
Rocked by Paul's admission that he doesn't even like her, heartbroken Elle finally cracks. She tells Paul exactly what kind of person he was before the operation and the kind of person she became hoping to win his love. Storming out of the party, she insists she wants nothing more to do with him. Paul assumes she's just being dramatic but Gail takes the situation more seriously. Desperate to reunite father and daughter, she reminds him they can never have the future Paul dreams of unless he finds a way to reconnect with their child.
