Title: Marriage
Summary: A short script on the wedding day of Boyd Hoyland and Janae Timmins.
Created: May 2006
Janae could feel butterflies in the pit of her stomach. Normally this would see her panicked, like before her exams earlier on in the month, but these butterflies were accompanied by a unusual feeling of shear ecstasy and delight which saw Janae unable to stop smiling.
A knock at the door saw Bree entering with the long white dress Janae was to wear for the day. A look of wonderment spreads across Bree’s face as she sees her beaming sister that gives was to surprise as Janae grabs her and dances around the room with her.
Later whilst putting the final touches to her hair and face Janae reflects on the fact that she has been happy for a while now. The exact moment when things began to change was when Max shocked everyone by allowing her to move into number 32. Despite Max’s plans for it to split her and Boyd apart it actually saw them drawing closer as they realised how much they enjoyed each others company and how they could spend the rest of their lives together. The months after that had been a whirlwind as they began to plan their wedding after realising their true feelings.
A knock at the door and Janelle peers into the backroom of number 26 where Janae was getting ready. Glints of tears appear in the corner of her mother’s eyes as she looks at Janae standing in her wedding outfit. Janelle brushes them away and tells Janae that Boyd is just leaving from number 32 so Janae should be ready to move in 10 minutes.
As Janelle disappears again Janae finds herself wondering over recent events again. The speed at which everything fell into place with the wedding was another nice surprised. With her and Boyd planning to get married alone, instead of in a double wedding with Kim and Janelle, things looked set to be tight financially. Janae had sacrificed her ring to pay for most of the wedding and she still felt this was the best thing she could have done. There was still a sizeable gap though but this was plugged by the kindness of the residents of Ramsay Street. Paul proved the most generous providing Lassiters as reception area for free and took care of the catering for a low price thanks to several words from both Lyn and Elle. After everything was in place it was simply the case of waiting a few weeks until the big day.
Another tap at the door sees Janelle telling Janae that it was time to leave. Gathering up her train Janae follows her mother out into the Scully living room where a mixture of family and friends are gathered. All look at Janae in amazement with a similar mixture of joy and happiness on their faces as displayed by everyone who had seen her so far today.
Before Janae realised it she was out in the big black stretched limousine used by Lassiter’s for it’s VIP guests. She was sharing with her bridesmaids Janalle, Lyn, Bree, Steph and Susan but the grouping were all quiet though the tingling of anticipation was present for all of them. Janae’s thoughts turned to the ceremony itself. They had managed to secure on of the biggest churches in Erinsborough and it would be packed with all of Ramsay Street and a large chunk of Colac attending. She could imagine it now, silence inside the church until the big double entrance doors were thrown open accompanied by a deafening organ and the whole of the church watching her as she made her way down the isle. She grinned despite herself, of course she was nervous but she couldn’t help but be thrilled with her dream so close to coming true.
In the event the wedding went like her dream with nothing standing in the way of her marriage to Boyd. Standing in front of so many friendly faces proved such an experience and seeing Boyd standing at the altar whilst she made her way up to the front of the church only confirmed her total love for the man. The vows were said and the rings were presented by their respective best people, Stingray for Boyd and Bree for Janae.
The ceremony then moved to the function room at Lassiters where a lavish amount of food and a massive cake were gradually worked through by all. Janae was still marvelling at the love she had for Boyd as she sat in his knee as they shared a slice of cake. He seemed equally happy as did their respective families. Janelle and Steph were thrilled as they had been for some time. Though Max and Kim had resisted the pairs marriage at first this lessened as the saw the commitment of the pair and both seemed delighted as the day continued.
As the reception drew to a close in the early hours of the morning Janae and Boyd were whisked away in the limousine again which took them to the airport where they would fly to their honeymoon destination of Perth on the west coast of Australia where they would spend a week relaxing before returning home.
The future was fairly structured for the pair. They would continue to live in number 32 until they could get enough money to move into a small place of their own. Janae planned to finish school whilst Boyd forged ahead with his degree in medicine. All of this was far from Janae’s mind as she settled back into Boyd’s arms feeling warmth and safety as they left Erinsborough.
