Natalie Bassingthwaighte And Jackie Woodburne on the NTA red carpet.
Despite generally being nominated in some form, Neighbours tends to be very under represented at the various U.K based television awards. Typically Neighbours also struggles against more promoted daytime shows.
The 2006 National Television Awards saw this change for a night as three key cast members graced the red carpet and attended the ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall.
Alan Fletcher (
Karl Kennedy),
Natalie Bassingthwaighte (
Izzy Hoyland) and Jackie Woodburne (
Susan Kinski) were all able to accept invites thanks to a stint of filming Neighbours in the U.K for a storyline that will hit Australian screens later this year.
The reshuffle didn't extend to the publicly voted awards though as Neighbours was beaten in the 'Popular Daytime Programme' category by Deal Or No Deal.
The nature of celebrity was also hinted at as photos from the event came in. Despite having left the show Natalie Bassingthwaighte gained the most attention. No pictures of Alan Fletcher were added to any of the big photo agency sites and Jackie Woodburne was credited as a guest of Bassingthwaighte.
Still U.K Neighbours fans will be happy at the representation of the Australian soap at the awards. Whilst it is unlikely that such a turnout will occur again in the near future the three stars appearing at the NTA's makes and nice change and may even attract new fans to Neighbours.
The National Television Awards will be broadcast on the 1st November on ITV 1 at 8.00pm.
