2007 Logies Wrap Up

May 2007

Neighbours 2007 Logies
Neighbours puts in a poor performance at the 2007 Logie awards.
It was yet another poor year for Neighbours as they failed to secure Logies in any of the categories the show and its cast were nominated in.

As Neighbours continues to grapple with poor Australian viewing figures and rumours of greedy demands for more money pushing away the BBC, Neighbours lack of popularity was played out on television screens across Australia.

To compound Neighbours struggle, the shows failures were matched with success by fellow soap Home and Away. Whilst the shows have never competed aggressively, comparisons between the two shows have continued to be drawn by media outlets as examples of opposites. Many felt that the 2006 saw Neighbours frantically trying to imitate the other soap. The Logie results could be used as prove that all the Neighbours team managed to do was push away established fans who lost faith as the essence of Neighbours was stripped from the show.

Ultimately poor results are to be expected from the popularity oriented Logie Awards however the fact that Neighbours fails to capture the public is dissapointing. Given that it comes at a time of great uncertainty for the show should unsettle production members and fans alike.

The Cast
As with previous Logie award shows, the 2007 TV Week Logie Awards were well attended by Neighbours cast members. Those nominated were accompanied by a large number of other key cast members.

Fans appeared generally impressed with the outfits worn by the cast for the glamourous all evening event. There were a few raised eyebrows at the curtain themed dress worn by Nicky Whelan and the bare stomach Caitlin Stasey. The winners were Stephanie Mcintosh, Pippa Black and Eliza Taylor-Cotter.
