A credit sequence can have a large influence on a show, providing both a theme tune and setting the tone of the show in the 20 odd seconds clip. Think of hit TV shows such as the sitcom Friends or the cult show Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Both have established themes and opening sequences which epitomizes each shows. Equally a poor credit sequence can stick in the mind of viewers and detract from the show.
The 2005 Neighbours credits have come under huge criticism, thanks to the bias to certain cast and a lack of Erinsborough based shots. Many argued that the credits attempted to mimic those of Australia's other major soap "Home And Away" which had begun eating into Neighbours viewings figures as the 2005 credits were being designed.
Whilst these complaints continued throughout the year no changes were made but it does seem as though the Neighbours production team are planning to overhaul the credits and jazz up the Neighbours theme which accompany them.
For the moment the credits remain with short clips of various character interacting, in front of brightly coloured backgrounds and over shots of Ramsay Street. Whilst the changes may not be in place for the beginning of the 2006 season of the soap the Neighbours team have suggested new vocals and big changes in the credit sequence. Also look out for the addition of newer cast members such as Pippa Black (Elle Robinson), Daniel O'Connor (Ned Parker), Caitlin Stasey (Rachel Kinski) and Matthew Werkmeister (Zeke Kinski).
